Cairnes Irish Woven Blanket | Ulster Scots Family Crest Throw
Cairnes came south from Scotland and put its name on ledgers rather than castles. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Cairnes family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
The Cairnes Name in Ireland
The name is Scottish, taken from lands in Galloway named for their cairns — the old stone waymarks — and it crossed to Ulster with seventeenth-century settlement, spreading south into Louth. There it earned its keep twice over: the Cairnes family of Drogheda ran one of Ireland's best-known regional breweries for more than a century, and John Elliott Cairnes of Castlebellingham became one of the leading political economists of his age, whose The Slave Power of 1862 shaped how Britain read the American Civil War. Cairns, without the e, is the same name.
How the Cairnes Blanket Is Made
The loom does the decorating here. Crest and tartan are woven from 100% premium cotton yarn into the body of the cloth, finished with traditional fringed edges.
