Clancy Irish Woven Blanket | Brehon Clare Family Crest Throw
Clancy was the law in Thomond — literally. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Clancy family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
The Clancy Name in Ireland
The Irish is Mac Fhlannchadha, from flann, red. The Clare sept were hereditary brehons — judges of the old Gaelic law — to the O'Briens of Thomond, and Cahermaclanchy in west Clare still carries their name; a second sept of the same name held Dartry in north Leitrim. Music gave the name its modern fame: Willie Clancy of Miltown Malbay was among the most celebrated uilleann pipers of the twentieth century, and the summer school named for him still fills west Clare with players every July. MacClancy keeps the older form.
How the Clancy Blanket Is Made
Set in the weave, permanently. Crest and tartan are formed of 100% premium cotton yarn in the cloth itself, finished with traditional fringed edges.
